Coxwoldshire refers to the group of villages including Coxwold, Byland with Wass, Husthwaite, and Kilburn. Within the area lie the ruins of Byland Abbey. In Coxwold there is Shandy Hall, the home of Lawrence Sterne, author of Tristram Shandy, the Coxwold pottery and other craft showrooms. Kilburn is famous for the mouseman furniture.

Rosedale has a hotel, two pubs, a school, a church, a camping and caravan site, and numerous bed and breakfast facilities. It is a popular tourist destination for walkers, cyclists and caravaners.

Terrington is a small working village near Castle Howard. This year the village is celebrating ten years of Terrington Arts with a vllage festival.
